Lopar Summer School

Every year, Lopar hosts the Lopar Summer School – an extracurricular programme run by the Biotechnical Faculty.

  • Biology and Species Diversity of Higher Crustaceans (June) – students explored the biogeography of the Adriatic and recorded 32 species of crustaceans across four field sites

  • Bioblitz (September) – an intensive field survey of the island's biodiversity, involving students, mentors, and assistants; the result was an extensive dataset with more than 1,000 entries from 175 locations, covering 360 different species

Field Research in Nature

Lopar regularly hosts field courses for students of ecology, biodiversity, and forestry from the Biotechnical Faculty. The island of Rab has also hosted an international research team meeting as part of a project led by ZRC SAZU, with partners from Iceland, Koper, and Ljubljana - placing Lopar on the map of international scientific collaboration.

Data That Stays on Lopar

One of the core ideas behind the project is that all data collected in the field remains accessible for the future. We are building a long-term, freely accessible database on the biodiversity of this part of the island of Rab, growing with every season.
